Here we see a typical scan of a product label. Scanning can be effectively accomplished from a distance of between 4 to 16 inches from the nose of the scanner to the label surface. On each label the SKU (not UPC) number of the product is bar-coded. The manufacturer's name and part number and a couple of lines of description are also shown. If a series of labels if for essentially the same product, but each label has a differentiating attribute - size, for example - the differentiated attribute appea rs in bold text in a reserved area of the label.
